Ava Sandroni is a junior here at Jamesville-Dewitt High School. She participates in a countless amount of activities that help build her character. She partakes in basketball as a varsity team captain and also plays and trains outside of school. Ava says her love for the game came from playing in the J-DYAA basketball program (Jamesville-Dewitt Youth Athletic Association) as well as her father introducing her to the sport and fully supporting her sporting career.
Ava is very determined to achieve her goals in basketball which include reaching 1,000 points in her high school career, and would like to continue playing in college at Colgate University. When asked what she found interesting in basketball, Ava stated, “I like the energy, the pace, and quick bounce backs.” Other than basketball, in her free time, Ava likes to sit back and enjoy movies and read some novels. Ava is even a high honor roll student at J-D and puts a great amount of effort in both her academics and athletics which led her to win the “Sport Scholar” award.
Ava is a determined and involved student here at J-D. School counselor Denise Becher says, “When I first met her in ninth grade, I thought she was very mature, you know well rounded, motivated.” Mrs. Becher is the former Boys Junior Varsity Basketball Coach here at J-D, has played in college, and is a referee in some local league games as well. Mrs. Becher stated that she and Ava have worked towards her academic and athletic goals together. “I would say her effort, her skills, and overall dedication to work,” Becher stated. Mrs. Becher has nothing but good things to say about Ava as the mentorship between them continues. “Three words I would use to describe Ava would be mature, motivated, and grounded.” Ava no doubt has Mrs. Bechers support behind her as well.
