The Jamesville-DeWitt High School Varsity Girls Swim team has had a strong start to the season with a 4-1 record. Their first victories were against Syracuse High School, Cicero-North Syracuse High School, and Liverpool High School. They just took down one of their big rivals Christian Brothers Academy in a meet on Sept. 25 with a final score of 100 to 83. So far the team’s only loss has been to currently undefeated rival Fayetteville-Manlius High School. The girls fought hard but came up short with a score of 83-95.
The girl’s success has come so far without a pool to call their own. Unfortunately the team’s pool at the Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School had been out of commission until very recently, forcing the team to travel to either Cazenovia College or Lemoyne College for practice. “Everyone wants to have that feeling of this is my home pool. I’m comfortable here and we didn’t get that until a few days ago,” says senior captain Emma Galletta.
Fortunately for the team, the pool has been repaired and the girls are back to competing at home. “Now that we are back on the right track, I have high hopes because we have a ton of great swimmers and I’m looking forward to great things,” said Galletta.
Despite not having a home pool, the team has high aspirations this season. Senior Captain Sawyer Parker said, “I want to win Class B Sectionals and State quals again.” The Jamesville Dewitt Girls Swim Team won state quals during the 2017-2018 season. They are currently undefeated in their league but they don’t want to stop there. They lost in sectionals last year so they are determined to finish the job this 2018 season.
The girls next home meet on Oct. 18 against Baldwinsville High School. Following the meet on Oct. 18 they will have 7 meets left until they compete in sectionals.
