The Senior Spotlight for this week is Stella Heflin. Stella is a dedicated student who works extremely hard in and out of school. She’s also the President of National Honor Society and contributing member of the Jamesville-DeWitt Cross Country Team and the Track and Field Team.

Before her junior year Heflin moved to J-DHS from Columbia, Missouri, where she went to Hickman High School.“ It was a tough transition, but I met a lot of nice people, especially with my cross country team,” said Heflin.

Back at Hickman High School, she started to run cross country. Recently she placed 100th in the Section III Manhattan Invitational and she plans to continue her success on Nov. 3 as her and her team takes on sectionals

Heflin is very busy with cross country, NHS, and just getting her school work done. “I don’t go on my phone a lot and just work from when I get home until I go to bed,” said Heflin.

As the President of NHS, Heflin is responsible for coordinating with Mrs. Bond and Mrs. Ennis and the other officers, running meetings, and organizing meetings and events. She is also responsible for making sure everything is running smoothly in NHS. Recently, Heflin organized a school-wide food drive for NHS and is trying to plan ideas for the Hoops for Courage basketball game.

Since Heflin is a senior and her high school career will be coming to a close, she has applied to five different schools that are out of state for early decision. She also wants to study environmental science or atmospheric science and plans on getting a PHD.
