This past weekend, we watched the Red Rams boys varsity soccer team sweep Rome Free Academy 2-0 on a major night of their season. Saturday October 2 was their Senior Night, Homecoming, and Coaches vs. Cancer game. Of course, student section also really showed up with their red out, filling the entire student section with every grade level.

The game was very fast paced from the beginning, but no goals were scored until the end of the first half. In the first half, the Red Rams ended with one goal from senior Ryan Brazell, assisted by Senior Jacob Mone. Brazell explains that he prepares for every game with a “pasta dinner” and that “I stretched for an hour before I even got to the game”. Anticipation for the game was clearly very intense, knowing there was a large student section, with high expectations after 2 years of a global pandemic.

After the very exciting first half, fans were prepared for players follow through with their success going into the second half. As always, the boys gave it their best for us and Junior Kyan Barbuto shot and scored the second goal of the game after half time. Barbuto explains that “our goal going into the game was to go out and set the tone early to get them on their back foot”.

As there is no football team this year, the boys soccer team really made up for that with such an intense game ending in a win for the Red Rams.
