President Trump and First Lady Test Positive for the Coronavirus

After months of downplaying the virus that has taken the lives of over 200,000 Americans, President Trump and first lady Melania Trump have contracted the coronavirus. Early Friday morning Trump tweeted “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

This follows Trump’s tweet late Thursday night, in which Trump and the first lady began the quarantine process after coming into contact with Hope Hicks, a senior White House advisor who tested positive for the coronavirus. Trump tweeted, “Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!”

Just days earlier in the first presidential debate, Trump mocked Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden for his staunch support for mask wearing.  “I don’t have — I don’t wear masks like him. Every time you see him, he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away from them and he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen,” said Trump.

The President’s physician has yet to release details on whether or not Trump is experiencing any coronavirus symptoms.
