The first hot chocolate was spicy and thick. It was an expensive treat that only the rich could afford because chocolate was extremely expensive. During the 1500’s a European explorer brought the tools and ingredients to Europe where the love for hot chocolate began.
Since then people have been enjoying the sweet, chocolaty taste of hot chocolate all around the globe . It’s now the winter season and the question that everyone’s asking is where can you get the best hot chocolate. Well according to Jamesville-Dewitt High School students the best place to get a sweet tasting hot chocolate is at home surrounded by the people you love, but before discussing why it’s important to know where,m why, and how hot chocolate became the sweet winter treat is it today.
“Drinking hot chocolate at home is the best because when ever we drink it my mamma makes it . I feel like it’s made with love” says JDHS freshmen student Eryn Douglas. Douglas isn’t the only one to think that, those who said they enjoy homemade hot chocolate said similar phrases, along with saying homemade hot chocolate is usually cheaper. Some places you can get packaged hot chocolate if you don’t feel like making it from scratch are Wegmans, Tops,Price chopper, and Aldi’s.
If you don’t enjoy making your own hot chocolate, or you’re too busy to make it, there’s another way to easily get that delicious beverage. According to students at JDHS the second best place to get hot chocolate is Starbucks. Whether it be salted caramel, or peppermint hot chocolate, people enjoy getting the sugary tasting drink at Starbucks. “Whenever I go to Starbucks I get hot chocolate, even in the summer and spring. I love it, there’s the perfect amount of chocolate in it.” says JDHS student Mikayla McClellan. “I go there with my friends every year when we go ice skating at Clinton Square. It’s practically a tradition by now” McClellan also stated. Some Starbucks locations near Syracuse, New York are 217 W Genesee St, Fayetteville, NY 13066, and 340 Towne Dr, Fayetteville, NY 13066 located in Target.
Even though Starbucks was voted second place Dunkin Doughnuts come into an extremely close third place with only three more people preferring Starbucks. Many people who enjoyed Dunkin Doughnuts hot chocolate the best expressed an extreme loyalty to the brand. “Dunkin Doughnuts is the only place to go. It’s the best and only place to get hot chocolate.” JDHS freshman Zoey Baker said. Other students such as Rashana Richards, and Nina Peters also stated that Dunkin Doughnuts hot chocolate was their favorite due to the fact that it came from Dunkin Doughnuts. Some locations are 501 E Genesee St, Fayetteville, NY 13066 and 4 Chevy Dr, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
Even if Starbucks and Dunkin Doughnuts are in 2nd and third place, making hot chocolate at home won by a lot of votes. Many people agree that home is the best place to drink a hot chocolate, surrounded by friends and family, even if the drink isn’t as good as it would be from somewhere else. This winter season take the time to make a hot chocolate and sit down with family and friends.
