The second annual Bust-A-Move Club Halloween Dance at Jamesville-DeWitt High School is on Oct. 24. It will take place in the J-DHS main gym from 7- 10 pm. Tickets are required for entry into the dance and will be on sale Oct. 20-23 for $10 and will also be sold at the door the night of the dance. All proceeds will go to Stupid Dumb Breast Cancer.

At the Halloween Dance, costumes are encouraged but are not required. There will be a Halloween costume contest with different categories, such as funniest, scariest, and most original and winners will recieve a $10 Chipotle gift card. The refreshments at the dance will be water and candy.

“This year the dance couldn’t be at a more perfect time: it’s on a Friday, (students don’t have) school that day so you have time to get ready and put your costume on,” said science teacher Nancy Raicht, the club adviser for Bust A Move.

The Bust-A-Move Club raised over $2,000 for the local foundation Stupid Dumb Breast Cancer last year. The Bust A Move club “Is the J-D breast cancer awareness and fundraising club,” said sophomore Bess Murad, co-president of the club. All proceeds from dance ticket sales and other fundraisers throughout the school year go to the foundation.

Stupid Dumb Breast Cancer foundation was created in 2012 and is run by Fayetteville-Manlius resident Ann Marie Giannino-Otis, a breast cancer survivor who wants to help other CNY women going through chemotherapy. Since 2012, her foundation has donated over $50,000 to various breast cancer foundations. Giannino-Otis makes ‘Bravery Bags’ for local patients pre- surgery. These bags include lip balm, dry shampoo, chocolate, a small pillow, and have hand written notes from Giannino-Otis herself or Jill Greblick, another cancer survivor that runs a similar foundation in the Boston Area, to make the recovery process easier.

Considering the work that Giannino-Otis has done for Stupid Dumb Breast Cancer, the club members in Bust A Move hope that the J-DHS students will attend this dance so they can donate to Stupid Dumb Breast Cancer, and shimmey a smile on their face.
