Girls Golf Swings Their Way to Undefeated Season, SCAC Empire Title

The Red Rams swung their way to the SCAC Empire championship, capping off their undefeated season with a title to their name.

Just like all the other spring sports teams, J-D Girls golf kicked off the season nearly two years removed from their last match. Two grade’s worth of golfers had graduated and moved on from college, leaving the sophomores of the 2019 season as the new seniors of the 2021 season. However, it was a collection of even younger players leading the team to victory this year.

At the division tournament, the lowest scores of the Rams came from Abby Neuman, Jaeda Robinson, Sophia Ferris, and Sarah Burgess. Neuman, just a sophomore, placed second overall with a score of just 90.

Having so many younger, newer, and less experienced players was certainly a difficult obstacle to overcome.

“There are a lot of new players who haven’t been able to be on the team until this year,” said junior Cleo Shimos.

However, the success of the team proved how well the Rams did at overcoming that obstacle, and they enjoyed the process all season long.

“The team this year is very upbeat and excited because we’re happy to be back and golfing,” added Shiomos.

Junior Sophia Ferris agreed, saying, “One thing the team is very good at is having a good time while taking golf seriously, which makes the team have a good dynamic and vibe.

Jamesville-DeWitt has had several good sports seasons this year, but the undefeated season that the girls golf team had this year is one for the ages.
