Distribution Education Clubs of America Prepares Students for Life After High School

Source: deca.org

New this year, Distribution Education Clubs of America, or DECA, teaches students at both the high school and college level real-world skills in areas such as marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. As Jamesville-DeWitt High School’s only business club, DECA is dedicated to preparing members for life after school.

The following questions were answered by Zamora McBride, Co-President of DECA.

  1. What is DECA’s mission statement?

Our goal is to teach our members skills in finance, entrepreneurship, and public speaking as well as introduce them to the world of business to expand their options after high school.

  1. Who are DECA’s officers?

Co-Presidents: Zamora McBride and Ayah Abdel-Aziz, Vice President: Addie Anello, DOC/Secretary: Sophie Commandeur

  1. What does DECA do?

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

  1. What kind of students would like to be involved in DECA?

All students are welcomed! We’re just hoping to create a fun and immersive environment for individuals.

  1. What are DECA’s goals for this next year?

Our goal for this year is to establish DECA at JD since it is a new club. We are also hoping to hold fundraisers, bring in speakers, and even go on a field trip. Members are also encouraged to participate in the many challenges DECA offers in hopes of winning awards and scholarships!

  1. Why do you think it’s important for students to get involved in DECA?

It’s important for students to get involved in DECA because business covers a large scope of careers and can be applied to almost all fields. Most people are ignorant on topics regarding entrepreneurship and finance. This club will give members the opportunity to explore those subjects and hopefully encourage students to study them further in college and start their own businesses.

  1. Any other information that you feel is important to potential members?

This club is a great opportunity to bolster skills for college, learn how to make money, and maintain your finances. Also, keep in mind this is the officers first year running DECA so we are all learning together!
