On Sept. 28, Jamesville-DeWitt High School JV and Varsity Boys Soccer won big twice; they defeated East Syracuse-Minoa and raised over $3,000 for the American Cancer Society. The Fourth Annual Sally A. Lock charity games drew around 200 people from both communities. The game was a “great sense of communication between both schools” says Coach Paul Krause.
The event also broke records. Both teams were able to raise $3,622 from donations and t-shirt sales, surpassing last year’s amount by $737. The J-DHS soccer players also broke their t-shirt sales record by selling over 350 shirts.
At the game, outside sponsors helped increase the total. Syracuse Silver Knights donated four game tickets, a soccer ball, and a game jersey that were raffled off at the game. All the proceeds of the raffle went to the charity, and the prizes were given to winners who included a parent of a JV player.
Amazed by the generosity from the sponsors, Coach Krause would like to thank the community for helping to support the search for a cure.
“I don’t know how to top it all next year,” says Coach Krause who looks forward to raising even more money in the years coming.
Along with the success of the charity, both the JV and varsity teams were able to knock off opponent ESM. The lone goal scored by the varsity team was from junior Tyler Lichtenstein, making the final score 1-0.
