The J-DHS Drama Club is performing Sarah Ruhl’s play, “Dead Man’s Cell Phone”, on Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11 from 7:00 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m. in the J-DHS Osborne Auditorium. See more details about the play here.
Jean is a woman who lives a fairly normal life until she finds a dead man, Gordon, in a cafe. After answering his ringing cellphone, she falls down the rabbit hole of Gordon’s life. She meets his mother, mistress, and goes on a date with his brother, Dwight. This play tells a delicate story of how technology can bring us together — or drive us apart.
“The beauty of Dead Man’s Cell Phone is that, in this offbeat, noir-like web of missed connections and relationships surrounding this mysterious dead man, there is a deep exploration of what it means to truly connect with someone.”
— Samuel Phillips (’22), Gordon
Co-Directors Anka Chiorini (‘23) and Persephone VanBuren (‘25), chose to perform this play because it’s “sort of a comedy, sort of not. It’s beautifully written and is perfect for this year’s group of people.”
Samuel Kim (‘22), who plays Gordon’s brother, Dwight, wants viewers to come away knowing that “The world may not be the rosy place you think it is. We overestimate people and hope for the best, but our expectations are often let down. Not everyone is a hero of the night.”
Tara Pollock (‘23), cast as Jean, describes the play as a “psychological thriller. A romance. A comedy. It’s unique in a way; It’s got a bit of everything. A little something for everyone.”
Filled with passion and talent, this show will truly be one of a kind. With only fifty seats available each night, there is very limited seating. Purchase tickets for either night with the link below.
