The Red Rams girls soccer team capped off their season on Friday with a home matchup versus the Central Square Redhawks. In a game that was highlighted by phenomenal defense and stout play by both keepers, it was Central Square that eked out a close 1-0 win in their favor.
The first half was largely quiet. Both teams struggled to really move the ball, and all shot attempts were quickly saved by the goalies. Except for the occasional near miss off of a corner kick, there weren’t many close calls.
Things began to pick up in the second half. Both the Rams and the Hawks were able to move up and down the field faster and more efficiently. The goals were peppered with more and more shots, but the game still remained scoreless.
With just under 20 minutes left in the match, Central Square finally broke the tie. After many missed shots and saves, the Redhawks sent the ball to the back of the net. With the clock ticking down, J-D started to play with more urgency. They aggressively pushed the ball down the field, but couldn’t seem to get any momentum going.
Central Square was pushing just as hard, trying to extend their lead. Several hard shots in the last ten minutes were sent at the Red Rams goal, but all of them were knocked away.
Despite J-D’s best efforts, the final horn blew before they could even up the score. They lost their final game of the season, though not for a lack of trying. It was a hard-fought effort, and they can move into preparations for the 2021 season knowing they left in all on the field.
