Jamesville-DeWitt High School has a reputation as a strong school both academically and athletically. So far this year, all fall sports teams at J-DHS have been recognized as scholar teams by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. NYSPHSAA Scholar/Athlete Team Award Program is a system that recognizes teams for their academic achievements.
“I think it shows that academics are number one at our school,” said J-D Director of Athletic John Goodson. “It shows that academics, as well as athletics are important to students, teachers, coaches, and parents in the J-D Community,” said Mr. Goodson.
The academic success achieved by this year’s fall teams is not a new trend at J-DHS, especially since Goodson has taken over as Athletic Director. According to Goodson, a maximum of three or four teams have failed to make the list as scholar teams since he came to the position.
This year’s winter sports are in the midst of being reviewed as scholar athlete teams, though Goodson predicts another strong showing. J-DHS has yet to have all teams make the list as scholar athlete teams, but Goodson is hoping that trend will come to an end very soon.
