Typically you don’t put fashion and sports in the same sentence, but the Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Girls Lacrosse team looks to change that as they put on a fashion show this Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m.The team is planning on going to Boston over spring break for a tournament. “Our goal is to raise somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000, but we have other funraisers too,” said sophomore midfielder Ana Dieroff.
The idea of hosting a fashion show arose when parents got together to brainstorm for fundraising.
The fashion show will take place in the Empire Room at the NYS Fairgrounds. The room will have a runway for the girls and their escorts, who will be male athletes, to walk down. Student tickets cost $10, adults are $20 and VIP tickets, for front row seats, are $30.
The sponsors for the girls have provided two dresses for each person. They’re modeling cocktail dresses or prom dresses from Boom Babies or Apricot Lane. The girls will be getting their hair done at The Hive Salon. The tuxedos the boys will be wearing are from Men’s Warehouse.
“There will be a dress sale from Your Best Friend’s Closet, food, drinks, and then a silent auction.” said senior attackman Bess Murad. “If a girl donated a dress, they recieved a raffle ticket for a $100 gift card to Apricot Lane,” said Murad. Apricot Lane is a women’s clothing store in Fayetteville.
Other fundraisers that they’ve hosted are the Color Run and a raffle to win a shed. At the event there will also be a raffle for court side seats to the Syracuse Univeristy Men’s Baketball game against Boston College on Jan. 1 at 12:30 p.m.
“I’m very excited for it because it’s a great way to raise money for our team and if we have the opportunity to go to Boston it will help us have experience with better teams,” said freshman attackman Riley LaTray.
