As the long awaited Holiday Break slowly approaches, many students and staff at Jamesville-DeWitt High School take this break as an opportunity to go to their favorite places and visit relatives for the holidays. Many students and staff also take this as an opportunity to go out of state and even out of the country. If you’re looking for places to travel, the J-DHS staff and students have suggestions for you.
Health Teacher Melissa Moore is going to Kenya for two weeks. For the first half of her trip she’ll be going to a safari and for the second half of her trip she’ll be staying at a beach resort. “We had two weeks off of school and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to check something on my bucket list,” said Moore. Moore is excited to see all of the animals at the safari in their natural habitat but she is especially excited to see the baby lions. Moore is also excited to go on a hot air balloon that’ll take her up in the sky to see the whole view of the safari.
Junior Addison Brown is going to Kiawah Island, SC for one week. Brown is going to Kiawah Island because it is a tradition for her and her family to go there during New Year’s. “ I enjoy going there for New year’s because of the fireworks they host and their boardwalks,” said Brown. Brown also enjoys the beautiful beaches and sunsets that the Island has to offer.
Sophomore Kavya Arasu is going to India over Christmas break to visit her family for the holidays. “ I haven’t been to India in a long time, I’m very excited to see my relatives who live over there,” said Arasu. Arasu has been to India three times and everytime she goes to India she travels to different parts of the country. Arasu’s favorite part about India is seeing all the amazing tourist attractions India has to offer. Her favorite tourist attraction is the Taj Mahal because of the beautiful architecture and scenery it has to offer.
Freshman Jackie Couto is going on a week and a half cruise to see Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. “I love going on cruises especially if the country were going to has warm weather,” said Couto. Couto also enjoys the beautiful beaches each country has to offer but she looks forward to the beaches in Belize the most because of the beautiful and unique scenery. Couto also enjoys going on cruises because it gives an opportunity to meet new people and spend time with family and friends.
Sophomore Artin Zeka is going to Sweden for a week and a half. Zeka is going to Sweden because he is visiting his family. “I’m very excited to go. This is my first time ever going to Sweden,” said Zeka. The thing Zeka looks most forward to about going to Sweden is the cold weather and seeing his family.
Math teacher Dawn Janicki is going to Kalahari indoor waterpark in Pocono Manor, PA for three days. “Whenever my kids come to visit us from college we always plan an exciting trip for them,” said Janicki. Janicki enjoys going to Kalahari indoor waterpark because of the variety of activities the waterpark has to offer. The waterpark includes bumper cars, mini golf, laser tag, escape rooms, arcades, restaurants, and of course water slides. Her favorite thing about the waterpark is a water slide called the Lazy River because of the slow pace.
Happy holidays to everyone!
