As the weather gradually becomes cooler, leaves begin to fall off trees and change color. With the Halloween season being right around the corner, you might find yourself wondering what activities to do this upcoming fall. Should you go to a haunted house? Maybe go apple picking? Visit a pumpkin patch? Stay cozy at home? If you still don’t know, the staff and students at J-DHS might have an answer for you.
Larry Stroh, a technology teacher, says that he enjoys his fall by fishing at Onondaga Lake from sunrise to sunset. He is hoping to hike at Morgan State Park or Highland Forest because of the various hiking trails they have to offer. Kristin Butler, one of the school’s counselors, says that she also enjoys fall hiking at Highland Forest. She also enjoys hiking in the Adirondack Mountains because of the beautiful views and the delicious fish tacos they serve at a restaurant called The Cottage. She would like to try biking with her husband this fall and exploring places throughout Cazenovia. John Lembeck, an earth science teacher, says that he enjoys spending the fall with his two year old son. Currently, he is teaching his son how to ride a bike. One thing he wants to do this upcoming fall is take his German Shepard to parks he’s never visited before, one of them being Clark Reservation in Jamesville.
Sophomore Daeliah Wilborn, says that she enjoys her fall by staying cozy and watching her favorite Halloween movie Scream. She also enjoys buying sweaters and fall scented perfumes like pumpkin spice or cinnamon apple. Ezmeralda Johnson, a freshman at J-DHS, says that she likes to start off the fall season playing her favorite sport, soccer. She’s been playing ever since she was a little kid. During the fall of eighth grade, Ezmeralda decided to put her best foot forward during her soccer tryouts and ended up becoming a part of the modified girls team. Soccer and football are the start of the fall season at J-DHS.
One common fall festivity that happens around Halloween are Fright Nights. Students such as junior Mykalia Ricks say that Fright Nights are a fun experience because of the variety of haunted house options they have. Ricks also says it’s a fun activity for friends and family to enjoy. Another common fall festivity among J-DHS students such as freshmen Abbey Butler, Sabah Alhamwi, and Shayna Nellis is apple picking at Beak and Skiff with their family and friends. They enjoy picking flavorful apples such as Honeycrisps, Granny Smiths, and buying apple cider donuts.
Fall pairs well with several activities and the students at J-D are welcomed to explore the several options mentioned above and more. Enjoy the lovely weather!
