The Jamesville-Dewitt High School Varsity Girls Soccer team is working towards winning their 10th consecutive Sectional Championship. Their current record is 11-0 under Head Coach Haley Nies. The girls are ranked number two in the state and number 11 in the country. On Sept. 25 the girls played their biggest rival Cortland High School and defeated them five to one.

So far this season Coach Nies has seen that the team bonding has contributed to the success so far. “The older kids have really pulled the younger kids along, really put them under their wing. They do everything together,” said Nies.

“The desire to achieve goals makes a winning team and these girls have set some good goals,” said Nies. This year, like many past years, the team’s goal is to win Sectionals and possibly even win States. ¨I’m really hoping we win Sectionals and go to States and even win States this year,” said senior caption, Sydney Tanner.

Along with Tanner, seniors Aryssa Lux and Hayley Quackenbush are the leaders on the team. “Good leadership can make or break a team. If you have leaders that just don’t care or just don’t communicate well, then the can’t work well,” said senior captain Arysa Lux. “Our goal is to make it as far as we can, create a good bond and make memories,” added Lux.

The three captains agree that the team is like a family to them. “This team means everything to me, it is one of my biggest outlets if I’m feeling upset. I can always count on the team to lift me up,” said Quackenbush.

The team’s next home game is Oct. 11 against Oswego. Shortly after the team will turn their attention to sectionals which will be held towards the end of Oct.
