Time to ball! Jamesville-DeWitt High School senior ball will be at the Double Tree Hotel on June 5 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are now available in the large cafeteria during lunch and cost $15 for J-DHS seniors and $45 for underclassmen or guests from other schools. After ball, all seniors and their dates are invited to the Strike-N-Spare Bowling Lane in Mattydale from midnight to 4 a.m for Operation Graduation’s after ball party. It is not necessary to attend ball to attend the after party, but students need to arrive at the bowling alley by 1 a.m.
At the start of ball, fresh fruits, cheese, and crackers will be available. For dinner, there will be a choice of lavender chicken, black angus steak, or vegetable napoleon, which all come with a caesar salad. For dessert, chocolate mousse cake will be offered. Beverages, including soda and water, will be available all night.
This year many guys have asked girls to ball in unique ways. One was senior Paddy Hagan, who texted sophomore Bess Murad asking, “do you like plants?” Hagan then came to her house with a plant that said “ball?” on one of the leaves. Also, senior Alyssa Robens was asked by senior Matt Schunck, who gave Robens a letter at the beginning of the day that said, “don’t open this until I tell you to.” He then called Robens and surprise her by showing up to her house on her birthday with flowers. Schunck then told her to open the letter which said “Ball?” Another clever proposal was pulled off by senior Dylan Volk to senior Molly Kantrowitz. Volk wrote on a shoe box, “I’ll go to ball with you when pigs fly,” and put two pink balloons with pigs drawn on them inside the box. When she opened the box the pigs flew out, but that wasn’t all. Volk also lit candles in his garage that shaped of the word “Ball?” Despite the crazy and surprising “ballposals,” some students prefer to ask through text or simply in person with no surprises, like senior Evan Dourdas who asked junior Paige Sherling.
Many girls who are going to ball this year and went to prom in the past are getting bigger and better dresses than before. Senior Gabby Simiele is wearing a light pink dress with pockets and a one shoulder strap. Many new features such as pockets, two-piece dresses, long-waisted, and creative backs that are cross-tied or key hole are starting to become more popular. Senior Maria Bussone said she is wearing a “creamy-gold dress that comes up high on my neck. It’s tight and not a typical ball dress.” When it comes to getting a ball dress, Bussone suggests that girls dare to be different. However, some dresses are basic and elegant such as Roben’s lavender ball dress.
While there is no theme, the colors of ball are white and gold. “We just figured it’d be lighter,” said senior class president Rachel Fairbanks. The DJ will be the same DJ as the junior prom, James Wannamaker with Wanna Jam Productions. Their DJ booth also comes with a photo booth which will be great entertainment at ball.
