J-DHS musical production presents this year’s musical: “The Prom!” The production will star junior Alex Bronchetti, senior Nicki Meskos, junior Thomas Vander Molen, senior Ella Brann, and senior Ethan Millea.
Directed at J-DHS by Kelsie Deyo, this production is about four eccentric Broadway stars who are in desperate need of a new stage. The stars head to a small town to put a spotlight on themselves and the issue of one student who wants to bring her girlfriend to the prom. Cultures clash as the reputation of the lead, Emma, and the community is on the line.
According to Jordan Berger, the musical producer, casting was especially challenging this year due to the spectacular talent possessed by J-D students. Bronchetti, who plays the lead role of Emma Nolan says, “I definitely did not think I’d get the role of Emma. There are so many talented seniors this year so I really thought I didn’t stand a chance.”
Berger says he’s excited to work on his fourth production at J-D and acknowledges the success of the musical goes beyond the talent of the cast. Besides a very talented cast, the musical will have a live pit band, an amazing crew, and an exceptional production team.
“Knowing how the directors work they’re going to make the process efficient to get the show done and make sure that everyone is having fun the whole way,” says Millea, who plays the role of Trent Oliver.
The musical choice was a hard one this year, as not many schools have put on a production of “The Prom” yet. For this production, the musical will be working with J-D’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance club to build on the show’s theme of acceptance and inclusivity.
Meskos, who plays Dee Dee Allen, says, “I am excited for everyone to see the amazing message this show has. It is unlike any musical J-D has done.”
