Just over a week ago on October 8, the Jamesville-DeWitt boys varsity soccer team took on Cortland for this year’s Homecoming game, and senior night. Being consistent from their 3-0 win earlier in the season, the boys exceeded their goals and earned another shutout. The team defeated Cortland 6-0 with a massive crowd including support from every grade level.
The night started off introducing all of the seniors and their families, then during half time the annual tradition of homecoming king and queen were announced. In fact, the homecoming king ended up being one of the boys teams’ very own, Senior Aiden Gaffeny.
From kickoff, the Rams got off to a very fast start. Although the team held possession for most of the first half, the team only netted two goals, credits to Senior TJ Tanner and Sophomore Emile Antoine. As the second half began, the boys picked up the scoring intensity and were able to introduce three new scorers to the list, Seniors Kai Brutsaert and Aiden Gaffeny, along with Sophomore Mahir Bechir, and Emile Antoine sending another into the net.
Though showing off on the scoreboard throughout the game at the other end of the field, the Red Rams’ defense held strong, leaving goalkeepers Sam Allen and Adam Rigdon only having to save two goals for J-D.
With this victory, the boys added another win to their 11-1-1 record. Looking ahead in the season, Leagues are approaching fast. The Rams battle back-to-back facing top competitors East Syracuse Minoa for the League Championship title, as well as Christian Brothers Academy for the last league game of the season.
