On Friday, March 18, at 7:00 p.m., the J-DHS Drama Club will host its 2022 Short Play Festival in the Osborn Auditorium, featuring 12 ten-minute plays written, directed, and performed by students.
Featured plays include “Going Down” by junior Morgan Moracco, an elevator ride through the five stages of grief, “The New Agent” by senior Sarah Kornfeld, an infectiously unique job interview, and “He Likes Lasagna” by senior Max Oppedisano, in which three friends ponder the sexuality of the acclaimed comic book cat, Garfield. Audience members can expect quite a few “introspective plays and comedic plays,” according to sophomore Thomas Vander Molen, who is directing his own play, “So Long,” and is acting in four others.
The Drama Club has been hard at work for the past three weeks working to put this festival together. But, as director and freshman, Persephone Van Buren claims, “It’s going to be a fantastic show for such a quick process.”
Instead of selling tickets, there is a suggested donation of $5 at the door. All proceeds from the festival will go to J-DHS Model United Nations Club’s donation effort to support Voices of Children Ukraine and Doctors Without Borders. Additionally, the Drama Club intends to match all donations up to $500. The Drama Club says the event is their way of giving back to their “supportive community, especially in this time of fear and uncertainty.”
The 2022 Short Play Festival promises to showcase student talent, all while supporting a greater cause. Doors for the festival will open at 6:30 p.m. for general admission.
