Generation Z has grown up around TV shows on channels like Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. These shows explored tons of different characters that almost everyone could relate to. These shows were extremely popular and almost everyone knows a show that they watched religiously as a kid. Simply put, these TV shows were our childhood, and we will always feel nostalgic towards them.
It all started when the hit Nickelodeon TV sitcom, Victorious, was put on Netflix in November 2019. Victorious came out in 2010, and was a show that many remember watching after school and laughing along to. This show started the theme of older Nickelodeon shows being put on Netflix. Shows continued to be added, including Sam and Cat, Bella and the Bulldogs, and iCarly. Watching these shows brings us back to our childhood, reminding us how much fun we had watching these shows. Many people would say that watching these shows makes them feel nostalgic and like their eight year old selves again.
Many were very excited when the show, iCarly, was being put on Netflix, mainly because of its overt popularity with older members of Generation Z. iCarly follows a group of three teenagers who start a web show and gain lots of popularity and millions of fans. This show was the beginning of the idea of becoming a social media influencer. “I was so excited to watch iCarly again because I haven’t watched it in a super long time. Watching it again reminded me of how much fun I had watching it,” said sophomore Ella Brann. Students at J-DHS clearly remember watching this iconic show as kids, and are enjoying watching it now.
The most recent show to be put on Netflix that came from Nickelodeon was Big Time Rush. The show highlighted a group of boys who were recruited by a big time producer to come to Los Angeles, CA to become the newest boy band. This show was also a great addition because the “boy band” actually recorded music that you can still listen to now. “I still listen to Big Time Rush sometimes and I haven’t seen the show in a while, so it was nice to watch it again,” said sophomore Sophie Commandeur.
These shows remind us of when life wasn’t filled with AP tests, driving tests, and sweet sixteens. They remind us of when we were innocent and just wanted to watch our favorite TV shows after long days of elementary school. These shows are things we can show our kids one day and remember how much fun we had watching them.
