The Red Rams had another successful sports season this fall. Six teams took home sectional championships, and members from seven teams moved onto their respective state tournaments.
Specifically, November 9th was a historically great day for Jamesville-DeWitt athletics. In less than twelve hours, J-D captured three sectional championships and two regional championships. Here’s how the day went down.
10:50 a.m. As the last runners ran through the finish line for JDXC, the team locked up their second straight Section 3 championship. Junior Nate Rindfuss and senior Ahviere Reese were the top finishers for the Rams, both placing in the top five. They went on to compete in the state championships in Plattsburgh, where they finished in ninth place.
12:45 p.m. The final whistle blew at Colonie High School, where the boys soccer regional championships were being played. J-D held onto their 1-0 lead over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, thanks to a first half goal from sophomore Ryan Brazell. With the win, the team earned a spot in the state semifinals where they lost a hard-fought 2-0 match to Greece Athena.
2:00 p.m. The showdown for the girls soccer regional title between Jamesville-DeWitt and Mohonasen was coming to a close. With the score tied 0-0, it all came down to a shootout. In the end, the Red Rams came out on top, winning the shootout 3-2. Senior goalie Katie Cappelletti, a member of the team since 8th grade, made three crucial saves in the shootout to lead the team to victory. J-D would end up losing 1-0 to Shoreham-Wading River in the state semi-finals.
2:20 p.m. The Red Rams volleyball team had just lost the first set of the Section 3 championships to Oswego. Over the next hour, J-D dominated the final three sets, with great performances from juniors Linda Shen and Maris Ryan. Shen had 16 kills, and Ryan had 33 assists, 9 digs, and 5 kills. The team would end up being eliminated in the regional tournament.
8:15 p.m. To close out the tremendous day for Jamesville-DeWitt, the boys volleyball team won the sectional championship. The Rams defeated Oswego 3-1, and senior leadership played a big role. Leaders of the team Matt Cieplicki, Brevin Scullion, and Nick Kemis played at an elite level. Cieplicki had 24 kills, Scullion had 45 assists, and Kemis had 18 kills. J-D continued their success, winning their way to the state finals. Despite a 3-0 loss to Grand Island, the team has a lot to be proud of. It was the first time in Section 3 boys volleyball history that a team had reached the state finals.
