The Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Girls Basketball team is following up last year’s successful season with a bang. With a talented team, and Head Coach Rob Siechen, the girls continue to impress. With many returning players such as senior forward Carly O’hern and sophomore guard Meg Hair, both members of the All-CNY Team for 2014-15. Last year the team added their fourth consecutive sectional title to their record, and lost a close game against Williamsville South in the Class A State Championship.
The Lady Rams won their first game of the 2015-2016 season against Whitesboro, with a score of 61 to 35. Their second game, against Oswego ended with another victory, 57 to 34. They are currently undefeated and will play Christian Brothers Academy on Friday, Dec. 18.
“Hopefully we will win this battle, but we still have to beat Westhill, Cooperstown, and Oriskany,” says Hair, who guided the team with 15 points against Oswego and 11 points against Whitesboro. In order to maintain their winning ability, junior Julia Kelner says they “are working hard in practice, running and conditioning to stay in shape.” Kelner said that is how she scored a total of 100 points last year.
Winning the first three games has given the team high spirits, encouraging them to keep competing to their highest abilities. “We are hoping to go back to the state championship, and win this time,” says junior small forward Carly O’hern. “We would be the best team that would ever win the state championship,” says sophomore Kasey Vaughn.
Junior Rocio Argente del Castillo from Spain joined the team this year, as she is a foriegn exchange student from Spain. As a new member of the team, she strongly believes in herself and her team, as she is doing her best to help contribute hard work to help makes their goals a reality.
